At Child Legacy International (CLI), we are responding to this crisis with action. Through sustainable agriculture and aquaculture, we are fighting hunger by equipping rural Malawian communities with innovative farming techniques that protect the land and produce lasting results.
Why Sustainable Agriculture in Malawi Matters
Malawi’s economy is largely dependent on agriculture, and most rural families grow their own food. But challenges like limited access to farming education, poor soil quality, climate-related disasters like Tropical Cyclone Freddy, and outdated tools have kept yields low for generations.
In addition, the fluctuating value of the Malawi currency (the Malawi kwacha) and inflation make it even harder for farmers to earn a living or afford food. That’s why CLI’s mission to teach low-cost, high-impact farming methods is more important than ever.

On our 240-acre campus in rural Malawi, Africa, CLI runs a robust Agriculture and Aquaculture program designed to empower communities to break the cycle of poverty and hunger. Here’s how:
Diversified Farming Practices
We teach and model sustainable methods such as conservation farming, composting, organic pest control, and drip irrigation—all tailored to Malawi’s unique climate and soil. These practices restore soil health and reduce dependency on chemical inputs.
Aquaculture Development
CLI has introduced fish farming in several communities, offering an affordable and sustainable source of protein. By integrating agriculture and aquaculture, Malawians are better equipped to nourish their families and create income through market sales.
Hands-On Farmer Training
We train individuals from across Malawi on our campus, equipping them with practical skills in growing food efficiently, using natural resources wisely, and adapting to climate change. These trainees return to their home villages and spread what they’ve learned—impacting communities far beyond the borders of our farm.
