Child Legacy International seeks to break the cycle of poverty by requiring participation from the local populations in the areas where we work so they have ownership in the development of their own communities.

The extreme poverty rate in Zimbabwe has been increasing since 2011, with the World Bank estimating nearly half of Zimbabweans lived in extreme poverty in 2020.

Poverty affected 71% of Zimbabwean children living in rural areas as of 2020, with millions of children going chronically hungry.

The UN reported in 2020 that recent years of severe drought had affected children’s health, with nearly 90% of Zimbabwean infants experiencing malnutrition and stunted growth.
The COVID-19 pandemic further disrupted livelihoods expanding the number of extremely poor citizens by 1.3 million to a total of 7.9 million people. (World Bank)

More than one quarter of children in Zimbabwe, do not live with either parent. The majority of these children have been abandoned by their parents or orphaned.
